What is the Legion of Mary?
The Legion of Mary is a worldwide organization of the lay apostolate in which Catholic men and women sanctify themselves through prayer and spiritual work in union with Our Lady under the guidance of the clergy. There are two types of Membership: Active and Auxiliary.
Legion of Mary at Ascension
Legion members strive to become instruments of the Holy Spirit through a balanced program of prayer and service. The active Legion members meet once a week, on Tuesdays for one and a half hours. We begin our gathering by praying the Rosary. After that, we read some passages from the handbook to gain understanding and guidance. The prayer meeting ends with planning for spiritual work for the week which is two hours per week. The Spiritual work includes: visiting the nursing homes and homebound. Praying the rosary before mass and/or for funerals. Evangelization by hosting 1st Saturday Devotion, Rosary Rallies, Divine Mercy, and bringing the Fatima Pilgrim Statue to homes. Many personal works can be added such as teaching religious education, soup kitchens, food pantries, praying for the sick, praying for souls, and so much more. Through all these spiritual works, the Legion members actively participate in the life of the parish.
Los miembros de la Legión de María, Reina de la Paz, en Ascensión quieren ser instrumentos del Espíritu Santo a través de un buen programa de oración y servicio. Comenzamos nuestra reunión rezando el Rosario. Después, leemos pasajes del manual para comprender y guiarnos. La reunión de oración finaliza con la planificación del trabajo espiritual semanal, que dura dos horas. El trabajo espiritual incluye: visitar residencias de ancianos y personas confinadas en sus hogares, rezar el rosario antes de misa o funerales, y realizar trabajos personales como impartir educación religiosa o ayudar en comedores sociales o bancos de alimentos, entre otros.Joining the Legion of Mary as an active member will help you:
- To Grow in intimacy with Christ and Blessed Mother
- To see Christ in others and serve Him.
- To participate in the work of the Mother of perpetual help
- To submit yourself to the Holy Spirit.
- And do great things for God and for the salvation of souls.
Auxiliary Membership
This is the prayer wing of the Legion of Mary. Auxiliary members are lay, priests, or religious, unable to assume the duties of an active member. The duties of the Auxiliary members are:
- The daily recitation of the Rosary.
- The daily recitation of the Catena (Magnificat) from the Tessera prayers.
Auxiliary members are supplying prayer power to Mary to glorify her Son and aid her in Her work to crush evil and advance the reign of Her Son, Jesus Christ as well as to support the active members through prayers. Participation in the Legion of Mary will enrich your spiritual life.
