This month our Legion of Mary Morning Star Praesidium celebrates 10 years at Ascension. The Legion of Mary is the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church, with over 3 million active members globally. Founded in Dublin, Ireland in 1921 by Frank Duff, it is a volunteer society dedicated to evangelization, community service, and spiritual growth through Mary. Father Luis and our Spiritual Director, Deacon Paul Cooke, guide our weekly works of mercy which include nursing homes visits, funeral rosaries, 1st Saturday Devotion, rosary rallies, and so much more. We also bring Our Lady of Fatima statue weekly to homes. Her visit encourages the family to pray together, offering many spiritual graces, and a deeper relationship with Mary and her Son Jesus.
The Legion of Mary is a worldwide organization of the lay apostolate in which Catholic men and women sanctify themselves through prayer and spiritual work in union with Our Lady under the guidance of the clergy. There are two types of Membership: Active and Auxiliary.
This is the prayer wing of the Legion of Mary. Auxiliary members are lay, priests, or religious, unable to assume the duties of an active member. The duties of the Auxiliary members are:
Auxiliary members are supplying prayer power to Mary to glorify her Son and aid her in Her work to crush evil and advance the reign of Her Son, Jesus Christ as well as to support the active members through prayers. Participation in the Legion of Mary will enrich your spiritual life.
